Developed the official website for DPI Robotics Club to establish a professional digital presence and manage student membership efficiently.
DPI Robotics Club Website
Overview
The DPI Robotics Club Website is a modern, full-stack web platform built to provide a professional digital experience for the members of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute Robotics Club. The project was created to replace the limitations of a traditional WordPress website with a scalable, high-performance, and fully customizable solution.
This project was not only about developing a website—it was about creating a digital ecosystem where students can easily register, manage memberships, explore club activities, and interact with the club through a modern user experience.
Background
After joining DPI Robotics Club, I realized that the club was growing rapidly and deserved a modern online platform that could represent its vision and provide a better experience for students.
Initially, we decided to build the website using WordPress. Although a significant amount of work was invested, several challenges appeared:
- Design customization was limited.
- Plugin conflicts caused frequent issues.
- Performance became inconsistent.
- The website was difficult to scale for future requirements.
- Long-term maintenance became increasingly difficult.
These limitations motivated me to search for a better solution.
Research & Technology Selection
After extensive research, I discovered the concept of Headless CMS.
Among various options, I chose Payload CMS because:
- It integrates seamlessly with Next.js.
- It provides a modern and developer-friendly admin panel.
- It offers excellent flexibility for custom features.
- It is highly scalable.
- The backend architecture is clean and maintainable.
This decision completely changed the direction of the project.
Development Journey
The development process took a considerable amount of time and involved continuous learning.
The project was built step by step, overcoming numerous technical challenges including:
- Backend architecture
- CMS configuration
- Authentication system
- Database modeling
- User experience improvements
- Responsive interface design
- Deployment and production optimization
Many problems emerged during development, but each challenge became an opportunity to learn something new.
User Experience & Interface
A major focus of this project was creating an intuitive and modern user experience.
The website includes carefully designed interfaces that make navigation simple for students, members, and administrators.
Every important page required for a robotics club was designed and implemented with usability in mind.
Authentication System
The platform supports multiple types of users.
Features include:
- Official member registration
- Public user account creation
- Secure authentication
- User profile management
This flexibility allows both official club members and general users to interact with the platform according to their needs.
Core Features
The platform includes numerous features designed specifically for a student robotics club.
Some of the major features include:
- Modern homepage
- Member management
- Event management
- Course section
- Project showcase
- News & blog system
- Authentication system
- Dynamic CMS-powered content
- Responsive design
- Admin dashboard
- Role-based content management
The website was designed with future scalability in mind, allowing additional modules and features to be added easily.
Server & Deployment Experience
One of the most valuable learning experiences during this project was working with production infrastructure.
I learned how to configure an entire VPS server from scratch, including:
- Linux server setup
- Docker installation
- Production deployment
- MongoDB deployment
- Application hosting
- Environment configuration
- Reverse proxy configuration
- SSL setup
- Production optimization
This experience significantly improved my understanding of backend infrastructure and DevOps fundamentals.
Automation Workflow
One of the most exciting parts of this project was implementing automation using n8n.
The membership approval workflow works as follows:
- A user submits the membership registration form.
- Registration information, including payment details, is automatically processed.
- A Telegram bot instantly sends the complete registration information to administrators.
- Administrators review the application directly from Telegram.
- Once approved, the member's information is automatically stored in Google Sheets.
This automation reduced manual work, improved response time, and made the membership approval process much more efficient.
Working with automation introduced me to a completely new area of software development, and it has become one of the technologies I want to explore further.
Challenges
Throughout the development process, numerous challenges had to be overcome.
These included:
- Migrating from WordPress
- Designing a scalable architecture
- CMS customization
- Authentication implementation
- Production deployment
- Infrastructure configuration
- Performance optimization
- Automation integration
- Continuous debugging
- Learning new technologies
Every obstacle became an opportunity to improve both technical and problem-solving skills.
Outcome
The final result exceeded expectations.
The website successfully delivered:
- Modern design
- Excellent performance
- Professional user experience
- Scalable architecture
- Flexible content management
- Automated administrative workflow
- Production-ready deployment
The project received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, teachers, and club members.
Many people were surprised that such a professional platform had been developed by a student team.
It also demonstrates that a student-led robotics club can build a digital platform comparable to modern professional organizations.
